BUTLER, ALBERT, Private, 16284 “W” Coy., 4 Bn. Worcestershire Regiment.


Born: Tipton, Staffordshire Resided: Tipton Enlisted: Dudley, Worcs (c. 7/9/1914).
Age: 19 Date of Death: 23/05/1915 Cause: Died of wounds Alexandria (Sustained Gallipoli).
Family notes: Son of John Henry and Elizabeth Butler, of 3, Castle Terrace, Park Estate, Tipton, Staffs.
Other notes: Private Butler’s Medal Index Card shows him as entering the Gallipoli Theatre of Operations on 25/4/1915.
YOUNG TIPTON SOLDIER KILLED
The death from wounds received at the Dardanelles is reported of Private Albert Butler, son of Mrs Butler of 3 Castle Terrace, Park Estate, Tipton. The deceased soldier was only 19 years of age, and joined the 4th Worcesters last September. Two of his brothers are also in the colours.
Butler was formerly in the employ of Messrs. Lewis's Tibbington Steel Mills, New Rd, Great Bridge. He was a scholar at the Park United Methodist Church, and a Boy Scout connected with the Coneygree Church Mission. In a brief letter sent to his mother on May 1st, Private Butler said that he had been in the firing line seven days, and all he wanted was some cigarettes.
