Been doing some research on my Great Uncle, and discovered that he was in the Works Dept. of the Admiralty in about 1915, does anyone know by any chance what this would entail, he was exempt from Military service. But I have feeling that perhaps something else was going on here as he was a tremendous traveller between the two wars especially to Germany, actually met Hitler!

He then left in about 1917 and joined the Works and Building Dept. of the Air Ministry.

Sounds like he would have been in protected employment (Dockyard work etc).
