KIRWAN, Patrick Able Seaman J/11213 H.M. Submarine "E14." Royal Navy
*Born: Gorey, Co Wexford (18/3/1893) Resided Co. Wexford
Age: 23 Date of Death: 28/01/1918 Cause: Killed in action
Family notes: Son of John and Annie Kirwan, of Bolacrean, Gorey, Co. Wexford.
Religion: Roman Catholic.
Census notes: The 1901 Census shows Able Seaman Kirwan’s parents, John (aged 65) and Nannie (aged 50), residing at, Tinnashinnagh, Ballynestragh, Wexford, also present were their children, John (aged 23), Daniel (aged 20), Joseph (aged 16), Owen (aged 13), James (aged 10) and Michael (aged 8); his parents stated that during their marriage they had eleven children, nine of whom were alive at the time of the Census. The family was shown on the 1901 Census (residing at, Tinnashinnagh, Ballynestragh, Wexford) as follows; John (aged 50) and Annie (aged 40) and their children, John (aged 12), Daniel (aged 10), Patrick (aged 8), Joseph (aged 5), Owen (aged 3) and James (aged 11 months).
Special notes: Able Seaman Kirwan is listed in the IWM Records as “Submarine E 14; lost in Submarine, January 28, 1918.”
