Carse, Franc Samuel Falkiner

Enrolled 1904.
Melbourne Church of England Grammar School; Trinity College; LL.B.; held a commission in the Field Artillery, and was placed on the Reserve of the Officers in 1912; first Chairman of the Liberal Speakers’ Association, and a candidate for the Fawkner seat at 1913 Federal Elections.
Enlisted 1 May 1915; selected for special duty with Artillery, and sent straight to Gallipoli (July 1915); invalided to England October 1915; France, with 4th Division Artillery, 3 July 1916; commanded 111th Howitzer Battalion and appointed Battery Captain 21 January 1917. After suppressing a fire in an ammunition dump he was hit while walking back to his dugout by a stray shell, and died in the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station next morning, 2 May 1917. He was buried in the Grevillers British Cemetery.
