    Posted: 18 Jun 2011 at 16:28
Welcome to the new The Gallipoli Association website, launched 18 June 2011 - Re-designed in Spring 2011 it has now been injected with a new lease of life, preserving the good parts of the old site and adding many new features. We have improved the general navigation of the Website and also opened up many more areas of the Website and Forum, to enable the sharing of information to a wider audience, and hopefully knowledge growth of the campaign.

GA ShieldNew features include; "On This Day", a day-by-day diary of campaign, "Film" library with links to Gallipoli related films on YouTube and a new "Facebook" page. You will find many of the old locked down sections of the previous website are now freely available allowing more content to more members and public alike, but retaining the superb archive of past Gallipolian journals for members to read at their leisure. Please also check out the link to the successful "Gallipoli, 1915" Facebook page, run by Association members that has active updates and chats on anything Gallipoli. Many more features will be added in the coming months, so please keep checking the website and Forum for updates and news.

The look and feel will be the most obvious change, designed to enable an easier navigation of the sites pages. The site is designed using a Web 2.0 platform, which will help to facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, basically a user-centred design to allow collaboration on all things Gallipoli. The site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue through embedded links with Facebook, the Forum and YouTube, creating a virtual Gallipoli community. This is in contrast to the older website, where users were strictly limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them. As you will read later, plans to expand this are already in progress.

What is new?

"On This Day" - This is a daily episode of posts telling the story of the campaign by those who were there, the men themselves. With help from Peter Hart and friends, using a rich selection of diaries, letters and books, some published before, some not, we sort to tell what happened on those distant shores in 1915/16. So far you will find entries from 25 April 1915 to the current day.

"Films" - the beginning of our own Gallipoli related film/video library courtesy of YouTube, which will hopefully grow. These include episodes from popular 1960's BBC documentary that featured many Gallipolians, and other more modern day series like the History/Discovery Channels Battlefield Detectives.

"Facebook" - A link to the "Gallipoli, 1915" Facebook site that is currently run by some enthusiastic members of the Association. This has a growing membership which stands at over 1500. There is also a Gallipoli Association Facebook information page, all designed to promote our presence in these existing areas of social media. Whilst on the Gallipoli Association website we have added a "Like" button, to enable visitors to instantly share our website pages with their friends.

"News" - a fully revamped news area based with a new news ticker, BBC style, that clearly displays up to date news on the home page. Also don't forget our news/media page on the Forum, added to regularly by Mal Murray and other Association members.

What's the same?

Why change what is good, so we have kept much of the excellent content that was already on the existing website, and in areas added to this. The "Campaign Overview" section has been updated, and a more comprehensive list of timeline events have been added. The "A-Z of Gallipoli Locations" has seen some minor updates, but an area we will grow going forward. There is an updated "Quartermasters Stores" for member purchases and an updated "Links" area. The "Members Area" area is still there with some updates and the excellent Forum continues to grow. We have opened up much of the Forums content and encourage members and the like to register as this is fast becoming a valuable extension to the website with lots of new content. Members only are invited to register by going to /forum/registration_rules.asp and complete your details.

If you are not a Gallipoli Association member we recommend you join to gain the full experience and join our growing community, prices are still only £20 per annum for a UK member, and £25 for overseas. To join go to /membership

This is not the end and more is planned in the coming months which will include foreign language translation, a members Flickr photo library, further expansion of "Men of Gallipoli", a Mythbusters page, links to book reviews and purchases, Gallipoli Mapping, a RSS feed for update notification and much much more. So please keep on checking back.

Important Note: all members logon id's and passwords remain the same. If you have forgotten your password please use the forgotton password button under the logon screen, if you have forgotten your username please email webmaster@gallipoli-association.org with your membership details. These can be reset and synchonrised to allow easy use of both the website and forum.
