WATTS, Harris, Private 1838

Born: 1898.      Resided at: 4 Balcarres St, Edinburgh.   Enlisted: 31/08/1914
Age: 17.    Date of Death: 28/06/1915   Cause of Death: Killed in Action, Death Presumed.
Military Service: 302 days.
Family notes: Father, Thomas; mother, Margaret; brother, James; sister, Margaret.
Religion:Presbyterian        Trade/Profession: Apprentice Electrical Engineer ( J.Ross Stevenson, Young St, Edinburgh)

Other Notes: MIC shows he entered (2b) Balkans on 12/06/1915
Harris lied about his age on his Attestation Form, which shows his age as 18 years 1 month. He was reported missing on 28th June 1915, and Struck off Strength, under Authority War Office 121/4342 ( A.G, 2a) on 18/08/1915. Finally on 30/08/1915 he was " regarded for Official purposes as having died on or since 28/06/15" ( A.F.B 103)
Interestingly, though reported missing, presumed dead, he has a headstone at the Redoubt Cemetery, Helles. Grave reference, X, D19. The inscription at the bottom, " TO MEMORY EVER DEAR " was from his mother. An ID disc was sent to his family in March 1922. Link to CWGC:,%20HARRIS
