Two more new vessels to add to the Index are HMT "East Point", commanded by my grandfather, and HM Tug "Flying Witch".  Both vessels are mentioned in the citations for DSC's awarded to Sub-Lieut. John Stewart RNR and Captain H.J.Young as detailed below.  The two DSC's were gazetted on 30th May 1916 together with several other awards in connection with Transport duties at the Dardanelles

Sub-Lieut. John Stewart, R.N.R., H.M. Tug "Flying Witch." When H.M. Transport "East Point," containing hay and forage, caught fire at Suvla, due to shell fire, this officer volunteered and offered his help; he worked for three hours under very trying conditions, and thereby greatly assisted in getting the fire under.

Horace(sic) J. Young, Captain of H.M.T. "East Point." Performed good work off the peninsula, where his ship was set on fire by enemy shell fire, whilst unloading supplies.

It would be interesting to know if there is any connection between the tug "Flying Witch" and the tug "Waterwitch" previously mentioned on this forum.
