The following extracts are from the unit diary written by the Senior Supply Officer of the Anzac Division.

15th September 1915

TRANSPORT - Transport from ANZAC to  No. 2 OUTPOST by Indian mule carts and from No.2 OUTPOST to Brigade Areas by pack mules. The former carried out at night as road unsafe during day.

WATER - Water for the troops obtained from well at No. 2 OUTPOST and pumped into tanks. Carried in fantasses, each 9 gallons by pack mules to Brigade Areas, and there emptied into tanks from where issue is made regimentally.

October  31st. 1915

RESERVE SUPPLIES - Increased reserve supplies in Brigade area to 10 days.

PRESERVED MEAT - All units complain re quality of preserved meat on issue (FRAY BENTOS).

WATER RECEPTACLES - Some improved method of packing out water is necessary. At present 9 gall fantasses are used, and when filled, the weight to be carried by each mule is over 200lbs. This is too much and the weight cannot be reduced by partly filling the fantasses as the result is then a shifting load. A fantasse of 5 gallons would be more suitable.

CANDLES - The supply of candles in October was very small and quite insufficient for requirements.
