Great post. This extract says it all -:

It seems clear that whatever the merits, from the larger strategical point of view, of the attempt to seize the Gallipoli peninsula, the posibilities of success were destroyed by the hesitations of the Secretary of State for War and his advisors, and by their failure to form any coherent plan which could be consistently carried out by the officers on the spot.
