I am a new member with a special interest in the 1st 9th Manchesters.
Both my Grandfather and my great uncle served on the peninsular

My Great uncle:

Private John [Jack] Crane 1210 C Company

Landed at Sedd-el-Bahr [Seddulbahir] 9th May

He was killed in action on the night 7th June whilst taking part in a half Company strong raid on the Turkish trenches in the Vicinity of “The Vineyard”.

Of the 100 men who took part 2 officers and 16 men were killed or listed as missing and a further 25 were wounded.

My Grandfather [and Jacks younger brother]:

Private William Henry Crane 2337 [later 350745] also 1st 9th Manchester’s

Landed 23rd July and only when he joined the battalion in did he find out his brother was missing – “he went over and didn’t come back”

Granddad remained on the peninsular until the evacuation and survived the war serving in Egypt for all of 1916 and then on the western front in 1917 in the Somme region, Ypres, Nieuport and again in the Somme region.

I have started today to post the 1st 9th ROH - 5 down 205 to go

Finally I would like to thank Linda [Corbett 6263] for giving her permision to use the data on her wonderful web site "The Ashton Territorials" in my ROH entries.
