I have posted details of my great grand father John Edwin Barmes on here previously who died on 25th April 1915 and who served with the Essex Regiment. His full derIls are listed on here.
Is it possible to find out which ship he was on when he landed at Gallipoli?? Many thanks Paul |

The War Diary for 1 Bn Essex Regiment for 25/4/15 states.
"The battalion less 2 coy was transshipped from "H.T. Dongola"to a mine sweeper and was conveyed as close to the shore as possible, where they were transferred to boats. The landing was carried out under fire and there were several casualties in the boats which took place on W beach at about 09.30." Send me a pm and I will organise a copy of the War Diary entry for 25/4/15 for you.
