1990B Pte Joseph Ricks 18/Bn AIF Enlisted 18/6/15 Embarked 9/8/15 with the 3rd reinforcements 20/Bn Served Gallipoli with 18/Bn from 29/9/15 until the evacuation in mid December 1915 KIA 3/5/17 aged 24 An eyewitness says ‘He was killed instantly by a shell whilst carrying ammunition to the front line at Bullecourt.’ And ‘He was faithful until death performing his duties brave and truly, carrying ammunition till the last as he lay dead and his burden lay beside him, Born Coonamble, NSW He was a widower and had a son Harold Lyle Ricks and a daughter Gladis Ricks . Joe’s medals and plaque were claimed by the guardian of his juvenile son. His sister Edna was looking after his kids whilst he was overseas. He also had another sister Evelyn.
